Home Economics

Junior Cycle Home Economics gives students the opportunity to develop valuable life skills and an understanding of food, health, and family life. Across 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year, students explore the three strands of the Junior Cycle specification: Food, Health and Culinary Skills; Responsible Family Living; and Textiles and Craft. A strong emphasis is placed on practical cookery skills, with students learning how to prepare, cook, and present a wide variety of dishes while developing confidence and independence in the kitchen. Students also study topics such as nutrition, healthy eating, budgeting, sustainability, and consumer awareness.

Assessment in Junior Cycle Home Economics is made up of a 50% written examination and a 50% practical food and cookery skills examination completed in 3rd Year.
