School Day
Our school day is carefully structured to support learning, wellbeing, connection and belonging. We recognise that students learn best when they feel happy, supported and connected to their school community.
The school day begins at 9.00am and finishes at 4.00pm Monday to Thursday, with an earlier finish of 1.15pm on Friday.
Wellbeing Time | 9.00–9.12am
Each school day begins with 12 minutes of dedicated Wellbeing Time.
This provides students with a calm and positive start to the day and creates an opportunity to connect with their tutor group and build relationships. Wellbeing Time supports our commitment to creating a place to belong, where every student feels known, valued and connected to their school community.
This time is used for a range of activities that promote positive relationships, personal development and wellbeing. It also provides an opportunity for students to pause, prepare for the day ahead and develop the skills needed to manage the challenges and opportunities of school life.
The social and relational aspects of school life are an important part of students' wellbeing. Wellbeing Time gives students valuable time to connect with their peers, develop friendships and strengthen their sense of belonging.
In a busy school day, having dedicated time to talk, listen, share experiences and participate in activities together helps students to build positive relationships and a supportive peer network. These connections are an important part of feeling that they are seen, valued and part of the school community.
We operate a 58-minute class timetable, providing students with focused and purposeful learning time throughout the school day.
The length of each class allows teachers to move beyond simply delivering content. It provides sufficient time for engaging lessons, meaningful discussion, collaborative groupwork, practical activities and opportunities for students to apply their learning.
The additional time also enables teachers to use a variety of teaching and learning methodologies, responding to different learning needs and styles. Lessons can incorporate individual work, pair work, groupwork, practical learning, discussion, questioning, digital learning and opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate their skills.
This structure supports our aim of creating active, engaging classrooms where students participate in and take responsibility for their learning.
