Junior Cycle Science in Mercy College Sligo provides students with a broad and engaging introduction to the scientific world through the study of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Science lessons are taught through a balanced mix of theory and handson practical work in a laboratory setting, allowing students to explore scientific ideas through investigation, discussion, and experimentation. As part of the Junior Cycle Science course, there is a strong focus on scientific skills such as inquiry, problemsolving, and critical thinking, alongside knowledge of key concepts. The learning environment is open, supportive, and encouraging, with students actively involved in their learning.

Assessment in Junior Cycle Science includes ClassroomBased Assessments (CBAs), where students complete an Extended Experimental Investigation in 2nd Year, alongside ongoing formative assessment in class. There is a final written examination at the end of 3rd Year as part of the Junior Cycle State Examinations, ensuring that both scientific knowledge and practical skills are valued and recognised.
