Curriculum
Our curriculum offers students a wide array of scope to refine their knowledge base from the Junior Cycle and to expand their horizons in new and exciting directions. Each subject focuses on the skills necessary to excel in Senior Cycle and to prepare our students to reach their full potential.
All students have an opportunity to sample every subject, regardless of what they previously studied in Junior Cycle. This allows students to approach each subject with a mature mindset and to facilitate them in making their choices for their Leaving Certificate.
The following subject areas are included:
Gaeilge, English, Mathematics, French, Spanish, History, Geography, Science (including modules of Physics, Chemistry and Biology), Business Studies (including modules of Accounting and Business), Art, Music, Home Economics, Microsoft Education,Technology, Drama & Film and Senior Cycle PE.
Modules are also provided in Social and Health Education, Religion, Careers, Portfolio, Physical Education.
In Transition Year (TY) micro-modules are concentrated, flexible learning experiences typically designed to last between 10 to 30 hours over the academic year. They can be delivered as standalone subjects or integrated into broader TY activities. Mercy College offers a leadership programme Leading Irelands Future Together (LIFT), Horticulture, Anthropology, Global Classrooms, Textiles, Manufacturing, Mini-Company. These modules offer a blend of class-contact time and self-directed, independent learning. Assessment is usually based on student reflection, participation, and a portfolio entry (such as project work or an artefact of learning) rather than a formal exam.
