Sport and recreation

This is a one year full-time course for students who are interested in a career in the Leisure industry.  It is structured to prepare students for work in the different areas of this fast growing industry.

Entry requirements: 

Leaving Cert or Leaving Cert Applied standard with an interview and.  Mature students are welcome.

Grants: 

Dept. of Education and Science Maintenance Grant available for eligible students through V.E.C.. Payment of grants are course attendance based.

Fees: 

Students pay a fee which covers registration, examination fees, course materials, administration, and additional certification. Precise details available on request. 

Course certification: 

F.E.T.A.C. Level 5, recognised First Aid Certificate, Soccer, Basketball and Gaelic Coaching Certificates

Career prospects: 

Holders of a F.E.T.A.C. Level 5 award in Sport & Recreation may progress to further studies on selected courses under the H.E.L.S. and to a broad range of courses under the Pilot Scheme e.g. DT411 Leisure Management, DT408 Hotel & Restaurant Management, SG134 Degree in Business Studies in Recreation & Leisure, GA866 B.A. in Outdoor Education & Leisure. Alternatively award holders may go directly into employment in a variety of jobs in the leisure industry.
