Nursing Studies (D.C.H.S.N.)

To provide an academic foundation for entry to nurse training and to develop practical skills required for nursing and related Health occupations.

Entry requirements: 

Leaving Cert. or equivalent. Mature students may also apply. Interview also required.

Grants: 

Dept. of Education grants available for eligible students through V.EC. Payment of grant is dependent on attendance.

Fees: 

Students pay a fee which covers registration, examination fees, course materials, administration, and additional certification. Precise details available on request.
 

Course certification: 

F.E.T.A.C. Level 5 plus First Aid Certificate

Students who do not have Leaving Cert. maths will be given the opportunity to repeat Leaving Cert. maths or take up F.ET.A.C. Level 5 maths in the college.

Career prospects: 

Possible progression to nurse training through the Higher Education Links Scheme (H.E.L.S.) in Universities and Institutes of Technology in Ireland or to nursing diploma programmes in the U.K. through the Nursing and Midwife Admission Service (N.M.A.S.). They could apply for courses such as S.G.435 Degree in Health Service & Physiology, A.L.054 B.A. in Social Care Practice, S.G.433 Degree in Occupational Safety & Health. Alternatively graduates of the course may enter employment as nurses’ aides or care assistants.
