Childcare with Social Studies

The course aims to provide the student with the academic foundation to enter a variety of third level courses through the H.E.L.S. and the Pilot Scheme. The student acquires the knowledge and skills to work in the childcare and also the Special Needs area.

Entry requirements: 

Leaving Cert. or equivalent.  Mature students may also apply.  Interview also required.

Grants: 

Dept. of Education grants available for eligible students through your local VEC. Payment of grants are course attendance based.

Fees: 

Students pay a fee which covers registration, examination fees, course materials, administration, and additional certification. Precise details available on request. 

Course certification: 

F.E.T.A.C. Level 5 Certicicate with an Understanding Special Needs Certificate, Child Protection Certificate and First Aid Certificate

Career prospects: 

Through the Higher Education Links Scheme (H.E.L.S.) and the Pilot Scheme graduates may progress to a variety of college degree courses e.g. Social Studies: Sligo I.T., Athlone I.T., Early Childhood Degree: Sligo I.T., Social Science: NUI Maynooth. Early Childhood Studies: Carlow, Early Childhood Care & Education: D.I.T., B.S.C. in Education & Training, DCU.
